This technology is used by Bajaj Auto Limited, India in its Discover and Pulsar models of bikes. Generally we use one spark plug per cylinder in conventional engines but in DTSi technology, we use two spark plugs per cylinder. The spark plugs are controlled digitally by a microprocessor. Microprocessor senses the load and speed of the engine and alter the ignition timings accordingly.
The two spark plugs lead to better combustion of fuel. The fuel burns completely. Due to complete combustion of fuel, emissions are low.
As ignition rate is doubled, products of combustion expand much faster. The gases push the piston faster and as a result power is generated much faster.
